Course Description

This course is designed to support students enrolled in MATH 1704. The student will study problem solving techniques that involve concepts such as estimation, solving linear equations and systems of equations, graphing functions, and using functions as models, interpreting graphs and Venn diagrams, solving problems involving percents, and using appropriate formulas.

Prerequisites

Appropriate assessment score - Must be completed prior to taking this course. MATH 1704 - Must be completed at the same time as this course.

General Education Outcomes

General Education Outcomes are the knowledge, skills, abilities, attitudes, and behaviors that students are expected to develop as a result of their overall experiences with any aspect of the college, including courses, programs, and student services, both inside and outside of the classroom. The General Education Outcomes specifically learned in this course are:

  1. Critical Thinking

Course Policies

Attendance Policy: Attendance is expected and is recorded daily. As with any class, attendance is vital to success. It is understood that conflicts arise forcing students to miss class from time to time. If a student must miss class, the student is responsible for the material covered during the missed period. There will be no extensions of deadlines. If a student is more than 5 minutes late to class or leaves more than 5 minutes before the end of class, the student will receive a tardy. A tardy receives an 80% for the attendance grade that day. If a student misses more than half the class, the student will receive an absence which is 0% for that day.

Homework: Homework will be assigned and completed using handouts. It will be done on paper and handed in. A point will be deducted for each class the written assignment is late. You will be allowed to work with others on these assignments.

Calculator Usage Policy: You may use a calculator throughout the course.

Cell Phones and All Electronic Devises (including laptop computers): Please turn off (or silence/put on vibrate) all cell phones and remove headphones before class begins. I would like you to be present and participate in class. If you receive a phone call that you must take please step out of the classroom.
