Course Policies

Attendance Policy

MSSC Certification preparation classes are structured so that the information presented in one class is built upon by the information presented in subsequent classes. Therefore it is to the student’s advantage to attend classes regularly.

The instructor reserves the right to record the grade of “F” or “WX” for the course or reduce a student’s grade if a student has more than two “Unexcused Absences”. Each student will receive only 1 (one) “Excused Absence” for the entire course. An absence will be considered an “Excused Absence” if the student notifies me (the course instructor) of the absence via the student’s KCC Email Account prior to the course period. Failure to email the instructor of the absence will result in the student receiving an “Unexcused Absence” for that class period. I reserve the right to ask you to formally withdraw from the course if you have used all 2 (two) of your “unexcused absences” prior to the final withdrawal date for the course; I also reserve the right to administratively withdraw you for nonattendance if you have exceeded 2 (two) “Unexcused Absences” prior to the last official withdrawal date of the course.

Classes will begin promptly and attendance will be taken within the first five minutes. Attendance will not be changed after that time unless there was an emergency that was discussed with the instructor prior to or on that date. A student that is more than five minutes late (non-excused) will result in a 50% reduction in the attendance points for the class session.

Late Assignment Policy

Assignments (MSSC E-module Sequence assignments/quizzes) will be considered terminally late exactly 1 (one) calendar week after the assignment’s due date. Assignments that are considered late will be assigned a grade value of 0 (zero) at the instructor’s discretion. To help avoid the late assignment penalty, please email me (manderson@kcc.edu) to make arrangements prior to the late assignment date.

Student Email Policy:

To ensure a student's privacy under all applicable education laws and to facilitate timely interactions, two College-authorized methods of electronic communication exist: KCC-issued student email accounts (using the domain name of @student.kcc.edu) and the Canvas Learning Management System. Students are expected to regularly check their KCC email accounts and Canvas for important incoming communication from the college or from individual instructors. Students understand that emails they send from personal email accounts (other than those listed above) may not be delivered to the KCC recipient, and students should have no expectation that such messages will be answered.

Expectations for Classroom and Online Behavior
