Course Description
The student will be able to explain the principles of design of weldments, weldability of metals, welding defects, weld testing and inspection, and preheating and post-heating. The student also will weld various joint designs in the vertical and overhead projections using a variety of electrodes.
Prerequisites
WELD 1114 with a grade of C or better - Must be completed prior to taking this course.

Course Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Recognize and understand American Welding Society basic welding symbols
  2. Weld in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions
  3. Set parameters for given electrodes and positions using the SMAW process
  4. Recognize and solve shield metal arc welding discontinuities
  5. Understand carbon and alloyingagents and their affect on a given weldment
  6. Pass visual prior to destructive test will test on 3rd test attempt prior to moving on to next position.
