Course Description
The student will apply his/her knowledge in a cooperating business or organization under the supervision of a training sponsor and the coordinator from the college. The student also will gain further understanding of the field of management through selected readings, assignments, and discussion of work experiences with fellow students and the program coordinator. AAS: Business elective.
Prerequisites
Successful completion of at least half of the courses required in the Business Management and Marketing curriculum - Must be completed prior to taking this course.

Catalog description (Include specific prerequisites): Prerequisite: Successful completion of at least half of the courses required in the Business Associate in Applied Science curriculum, or consent of instructor. The student will apply his/her knowledge in a cooperating business or organization under the supervision of a training sponsor and the coordinator from the college. The student will also gain further understanding of the field of management through selected readings, assignments, and discussion of work experiences with fellow students and the program coordinator.

(This course) was designed to meet specific student needs either individually or within a program and is designed to transfer to other colleges and universities. KCC participates in the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI), a statewide transfer agreement for general education courses. All colleges and universities participating in the IAI agree to accept a collective “package” of IAI general education courses; transfer of courses separately is not guaranteed. Assignments

  • (2) Letters of Reference (200 Total Points):
    • You will collect a total of (2) Letters of Reference – (1) Professional Letter of Reference and (1) Personal Letter of Reference. The student will email Cesar Avalos (cavalos@kcc.edu) to set up the individual training for a Professional and Personal Letter of Reference during “Week 1” as indicated on the Course Calendar. Both Letters of Reference will be included in the student’s Management Field Project Binder that will be submitted to the course instructor at the end of the semester.
  • (1 each) Cover Letter and Resume (200 Total Points):
    • The student will email Cesar Avalos (cavalos@kcc.edu) to set up the Cover Letter and Resume individual training. The initial email must be completed by the end of “Week 1” as indicated on the Course Calendar. The student will meet with Mr. Avalos (schedule to be determined by Mr. Avalos and the student) throughout the semester to enhance/create the student’s official Cover Letter and Resume. The completed Cover Letter and Resume will be included in the student’s Management Field Project Binder that will be submitted to the course instructor at the end of the semester.
  • (13) Reading Reflection Reports (650 Total Points) – Submit Reports to the instructor via KCC Student Email
    • (Minimum 2 page Maximum 4 page – double spaced) The weekly Reading Reflection Reports will identify the most profound element described within the assigned reading/video. After reading the text or watching the video, write a brief description of what the story was about, answer what was most profound, what had you not known before, is the text/video going to make a difference in how you approach situations that you encounter, was the reading/video worthless, what would have made it more worthwhile, etc. Was there any content that you could relate to in your classes at KCC? Was there any content that you could relate to in your current or past job(s)? How would you solve any problems that occurred? Would you do anything different to solve the problem or was the problem handled appropriately? What steps would you consider to ensure that the problem will not occur in the future?
  • (16) Participation and Attendance (160 Total Points):
    • The student will participate in all class activities/assignments per the course syllabus and course calendar. All activities/assignments MUST be completed on time per the course calendar. The student will earn Participation and Attendance points by on time submissions and weekly correspondence with the course instructor as well as any/all outside participants.
  • (1) Final Report and Binder Submission (500 Total Points):
    • Final Report: The student will compose a 5 page (min) – 7 page (max) Final Report. The student will be provided an outline to follow by the instructor with detailed information to follow. The student will print a copy of the report and include it in the student’s Management Field Project Binder that will be submitted to the course instructor at the end of the semester.
    • Binder: A Management Field Project Binder will be submitted to the instructor. Hard copies of all assignments/projects will be professionally displayed in the binder: Letters of Reference, Cover Letter and Resume, Reading Reflection Reports, Final Report, etc. The Binder will have a professional looking front cover with the student’s name, course number, semester and year. The assignments/projects will be separated with subject tabs. The complete Management Field Project Binder must be submitted to the course instructor NO LATER THAN May 14, 2026 5:00pm. NO EXTENSIONS!! A late submission will result in a grade of 0 (zero) out of 500 possible points and a final letter grade of “F” for the entire course. Early submissions will be available and must be arranged with the course instructor.
Methods of Evaluation

The grading for the course will be based on: letters of reference, cover letter and resume, reading reflections, participation and attendance, and final report and binder submission.

The weights given to each of these factors is as follows:

Letters of References (2 x 100 Points)=200
Cover Letter and Resume (1 x 200 Points)=200
Reading/Video Reflections Reports (13 x 50 Points)=650
Participation and Attendance (16 weeks x 20 Points)=320
Final Report and Binder Submission=500
Total points 1,870

Letter Grade:

(A)= 90% and greater

(B)= 80% and greater

(C)= 70% and greater

(D) 60% and greater

(F)= Below 60%

Withdrawals

When it is necessary to withdraw from a course or from the college, a student may do so on or before the withdrawal date stated on the syllabus without receiving a punitive final grade. Change of Schedule forms (used to add or drop a course) are available in Student Services and the student should obtain the required signatures prior to submitting the Change of Schedule form to an adviser in Student Services. Students may submit Change of Schedule forms through the mail, but they must be postmarked no later than the withdrawal date. No withdrawals are allowed by phone. To determine the last date to withdraw with a grade of “W” in this course, log into KCConnect and click on “my registration statement” under Academic Profile.
