Course Description

The student will plan, G code program, and machine parts on a CNC machining center. The student will demonstrate the components of planning the machining of parts on a CNC milling machine, tool qualifications and definitions, safety set-up, proper use of preparatory commands, miscellaneous functions, incremental and absolute modes, tool path and offset programming.

  2. Identify tool qualifications
  3. Plan, program and machine parts on a CNC Milling Machine
  4. Describe necessary safety requirements of CNC machining and programming
  5. Describe the different ways of entering programs into a CNC control
  6. Give the advantages and disadvantages of CNC machining
  7. Describe Cartesian Coordinate system
  8. Describe the difference between incremental and absolute positioning
  9. Identify machine axes addresses
  10. List the steps involved in process planning
  11. Calculate part coordinates, and RPM, SFM, IPM, and IPR for different cutting tools
  12. Describe carbide insert identification system

Course Policies

Regular attendance at all scheduled class sessions is expected. If student has missed more class hours than the number of credit hours to be earned in the class, instructor may record the grade of “F” for the course. Failure of the student to attend class does not constitute withdrawal. The student must make a formal written withdrawal through the Office of Admissions and Records.

Withdrawals
When it is necessary to withdraw from a course or from the college, a student may do so on or before the withdrawal date stated on the syllabus without receiving a punitive final grade. Change of Schedule forms (used to add or drop a course) are available in Student Services and the student should obtain the required signatures prior to submitting the Change of Schedule form to an adviser in Student Services. Students may submit Change of Schedule forms through the mail, but they must be postmarked no later than the withdrawal date. No withdrawals are allowed by phone. To determine the last date to withdraw with a grade of “W” in this course, log into KCConnect and click on “my registration statement” under Academic Profile.
