Course Description

The student will explain the proper procedures for grinding, boring, internal thread cutting, external thread cutting, tapping, taper turning, and honing on the lathe. He or she will describe the accepted procedures for advanced milling machine operations. The student then will demonstrate these procedures and operations in practical applications in the machine tool laboratory.

Explanation of Course Alignment

The student will explain the proper procedure for grinding, boring, internal thread cutting, external thread cutting, tapping, taper turning, and honing on the lathe. He or she will describe the accepted procedures for advanced milling machine operations. The student will then demonstrate these procedures and operations in practical applications in the machine tool laboratory.

Prerequisite: Machine Tool I and II.

Goals and Objectives

The objective of this course is to teach the students machine shop safety, lath operations, grinding and milling procedures. Students will develop the skills outlined in the course description above. Students will learn in the classroom and in the lab (machine shop). Also, there will be required lab projects to be completed in the time period allowed, which will be graded.

Course Policies

Regular attendance at all scheduled class sessions is expected. If student has missed more class hours than the number of credit hours to be earned in the class, instructor may record the grade of “F” for the course. Failure of the student to attend class does not constitute withdrawal. The student must make a formal written withdrawal through the Office of Admissions and Records

Expectations for Classroom and Online Behavior

 

When it is necessary to withdraw from a course or from the college, a student may do so on or before the withdrawal date stated on the syllabus without receiving a punitive final grade. Change of Schedule forms (used to add or drop a course) are available in Student Services and the student should obtain the required signatures prior to submitting the Change of Schedule form to an adviser in Student Services. Students may submit Change of Schedule forms through the mail, but they must be postmarked no later than the withdrawal date. No withdrawals are allowed by phone. To determine the last date to withdraw with a grade of “W” in this course, log into KCConnect and click on “my registration statement” under Academic Profile.
