- Communication
The student will apply his/her knowledge in a selected career field by working a minimum of 240 hours at a cooperating business under the supervision of a training sponsor and the program coordinator. This course may be repeated twice for credit.

Course Information
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Build his or her career by engaging in professional development and demonstrating human relations competencies.
- Read basic drawings for manufacturing
- Recognize the manufacturing processes in the manufacturing industry.
- Explain the key elements of machine shop theory and safe practices.
- Identify the tools, equipment and practices of the manufacturing industry
- Recognize the types of production and materials used in manufacturing
- Explain the key elements of machine tooling and machine operations
- Describe the mechanical principles of manufacturing
- Explain the key elements of mechanical linkages and their functions.
- Describe the key elements of the equipment procedures, machine tooling, and machine operations
- Describe the key elements of production workflow, production planning, and production control.
- Recognize the careers available in manufacturing
- Be familiar with the various types of welding (oxy-acetylene, gas metal arc, and spot).
- Recognize safe welding practices.
- Explain the fundamental concepts of electricity
- Recognize electrical circuit components and the input/output devices
- Perform a role on a team project or committee
- Recognize a safe manufacturing workplace.
- Use appropriate protective clothing for the job
- Identify unsafe conditions and take corrective action.
- Operate hand and power tools in a safe manner
- Identify industrial gases and know safe handling practices
- Demonstrate an understanding of quality practices and measurement

Evaluation
The grading for the course will be based on: Resume construction, 2 Letters of Recommendation, Cover Letter, Weekly documented learning objectives report (2 page minimum), a 3 – 5 page comprehensive Learning Objectives Summary report due at the end of the course, (three) supervisor’s evaluations to be submitted to the program coordinator during site visits, and participation & attendance.

(A)= 90% and greater
(B)= 80% and greater

The serious student will approach this program as an opportunity to advance his or her career. This is an ideal opportunity for the student to demonstrate his or her knowledge and skills in a program which is recognized and supported by the student’s employer.
Thus, the student should consult with his or her employer when developing learning objectives, and the objectives should be concerned with such things as: improving the student’s job performance, increasing the organization’s efficiency and effectiveness, introducing the student to other areas of the organization, applying educational concepts in the work environment, etc.

Student Email Policy:
To ensure a student's privacy under all applicable education laws and to facilitate timely interactions, two College-authorized methods of electronic communication exist: KCC-issued student email accounts (using the domain name of @student.kcc.edu) and the Canvas Learning Management System. Students are expected to regularly check their KCC email accounts and Canvas for important incoming communication from the college or from individual instructors. Students understand that emails they send from personal email accounts (other than those listed above) may not be delivered to the KCC recipient, and students should have no expectation that such messages will be answered.
Withdrawals
When it is necessary to withdraw from a course or from the college, a student may do so on or before the withdrawal date without receiving a punitive final grade. Students should use Change of Schedule forms which are available in Student Services. Students may submit Change of Schedule forms to Student Services or through the mail, but they must be postmarked no later than the withdrawal date. No withdrawals are allowed by phone. To determine the last date to withdraw with a grade of “W” in this course, log into KCConnect and click on “my registration statement” under Academic Profile.

Course Calendar
Site visits:
- The program director will be making site visits (or Video Conference) with the student and his/her supervisor(s) (including initial site visit prior to internship start date) as required by the terms of the course. The dates of the site visits will be determined by the student, site provider representative (supervisors), and program coordinator/Instructor.
- It is the responsibility of the student to coordinate, communicate, and plan all site visits (virtual or on-site) with all participants in this course (student, employer/Internship Provider, Instructor).
Weekly Objectives Summary Report:
- 1 – 2 page Word document describing your weekly activities or subject matter provided by course instructor. You may reference your: “Goals and Objectives” list of your course syllabus, work journal, the Site Visit Evaluation form.
- Due Fridays 1 week after work week.
- Submit (email) 1 copy to the program coordinator and keep 1 copy for your Internship Experience Binder
Learning Objectives Report:
- 5-page minimum report, double spaced, about your internship experience. More details (Template) will be provided at a later date.
- Due May 14, 2026 5:00pm
Cover Letter and Resume:
- The student will email Cesar Avalos (cavalos@kcc.edu) to set up the Cover Letter and Resume individual training. The initial email must be completed by the end of “Week 1” as indicated on the Course Calendar. The student will meet with Mr. Avalos (schedule to be determined by Mr. Avalos and the student) throughout the semester to enhance/create the student’s official Cover Letter, 2 Letters of Recommendation, and a Resume. The completed Cover Letter, 2 Letters of Recommendation, and Resume will be included in the student’s Internship Experience Binder.
Internship Experience Binder
- An Internship Experience Binder (provided by program coordinator/instructor) will be submitted to the program coordinator/instructor including all documents (per syllabus) and any other documents the student would like to submit
- Due May 14, 2026 5:00pm

Please read, complete, and sign all the forms associated with the course. All forms are located on the course’s KCC Canvas page (online). Please have your employer/Internship Provider read, complete, and sign all of the forms associated with the course. Please email all completed and signed forms to your instructor by the end of week 1 of this course. Print a copy for you, your employer/Internship Provider. Place a copy of the printed copies in your 3-ring Binder for the end of the semester submission.
Timecards:
You must provide documentation of the hours worked at your employer/Internship Provider. The Time Sheets must include the hours work per work week(s), dates, times, and must be signed by HR representative or your direct supervisor. Print copies for your 3-Ring Binder submission at the end of the course. Provide digital copies to your instructor via email per pay period.
