The course is designed to assist graduates of practical nursing programs to prepare for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses. Principles and theories relating to medical-surgical nursing, maternal-child nursing, mental health concepts, and pharmacology will be reviewed, utilizing lectures, discussions and testing to simulate the exam experience. This course does not guarantee satisfactory results on the exam. Guidance will be given regarding the method of testing and how to prepare for the examination.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Design a personal study plan in preparation for taking the NCLEX-PN examination.
- Examine test taking strategies that promote success for taking the NCLEX-PN examination.
- Identify personal areas of strengths and weaknesses in nursing knowledge.

Note: Any current book designed for NCLEX-PN review is acceptable. Make sure the book includes rationales for choosing correct answers and a computer code for practice. Computer practice is essential for better preparation for NCLEX testing.
· Class attendance and assignment completion is required · Practice NCLEX style test questions/exams · Practice dosage calculation exam · Completion of assigned HESI practice exams on Evolve-Assignment completion is required-2 Hurst review days-Required The grade in this course is based upon student attendance and completion of class assignments and computerized practice tests. Exams may be assigned to be completed in class or at home.
Remediation: If a student scores less than 850 on HESI Pharm and /or HESI Med/surg computerized practice exams, remediation needs to be completed with the student achieving a score of 80% or greater. All remediation needs to be completed by 7/22/2026 by noon to successfully pass this course. Scores on assigned tests DO NOT COUNT in the final grade. These are used as learning tools for review and test-taking practice.
