This course will be concerned with the integration of the histology, gross anatomy and function of the cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive and metabolic, urinary, and reproductive systems of the human organism. Use will be made of the case-study method to achieve the desired understanding and integration of physiologic principles. The laboratory portion of the course will include use of human cadavers to study the anatomy of the systems indicated above. AAS: Life science (laboratory science) elective.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

Grading scale: The course will be graded on a straight scale (no curve). Grades are assigned based on the following percentages: 90-100%=A; 80-89%=B; 70-79%=C; 60-69%=D; Below 60%=F. I will round to the nearest full percentage for the final course grade. For example, if a student has a 69.5% in the course, they will receive a 70%. If a student has a 69.4% in the course, they will receive a 69%

Participation: Attending class and being an active participant are crucial to your success in this course. If you miss class you will not only be at a severe disadvantage, but you will also miss any announcements for extra credit or extra assignments that may be made that week. It is YOUR responsibility, not mine, to find out what work you may have missed.
Make-up policy: Canvas will drop your lowest two lab grades. Late lab reports WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Labs will be due at the beginning of class / lab. You MAY NOT turn in a lab assignment for a lab you did not attend. If you know in advance that you are going to miss a lab, contact me and I might be able to find a different lab section that you can attend that week. This is not a guarantee.
Lab quizzes and lab final CANNOT be made up, so don’t miss them! You must show up to your exams at the scheduled time. If you arrive late for an exam, you will have only the time remaining for all of the students that were in class on time. Make-up lecture exams given after the exam date will consist of essay questions and must be taken within one week of the assigned test date during my office hours or in the testing center. All finals must be taken at the assigned time. If you are aware of a scheduling conflict, you may contact me PRIOR TO THE EXAM to arrange to take an exam early during my office hours.
**Cell phones: Please turn off all electronic devices prior to the start of class / lab to prevent class disruption. No headphones/earbuds are to be worn in class.
**Pencil (#2) pencil must be used on all exams. None will be provided.
**Audio recordings: Students may make audio recordings of lecture and or lab for their own personal use while enrolled in this class. However, the student may not share and or distribute these recordings without the expressed written consent of the instructor.
Laboratory Safety
Attendance at the first laboratory meeting is required. A student may not participate in lab if they have missed the first lab meeting, which includes the mandatory lab safety training. If a student misses the first lab meeting, they must notify the instructor to make arrangements to make up the safety training before the second lab meeting.
Students are expected to comply with the KCC Laboratory Safety Rules at all times. These rules will be discussed during the first lab meeting and each student will sign an acknowledgement of receipt and understanding. Students who do not comply with the safety rules will be asked to leave the lab and will receive no credit for that day’s work.
Academic Honesty: It is expected that you will turn in your own original work. Turning in anything but your own original work is plagiarism and is academically dishonest. Any instances of academic dishonesty could result in an F for the assignment grade, or, depending on the circumstance, an F for the course grade.
Knowingly or even unknowingly portraying someone else’s work as your own or allowing someone else to portray your work as theirs is considered to be academic dishonesty. If ever you are not sure if a situation is considered to be honest or not, please reach out.
Expectation for Artificial Intelligence (AI) involvement: Any assignments turned in are expected to be a result of your own work and research. Any sources used for research are to be properly cited, including any AI software. For any assignment or exam in which you violate the student code of conduct you will receive zero points on the assignment after the first violation and will fail the class after the second violation and may face further disciplinary action.
When assignments are submitted through CANVAS, many are automatically checked for plagiarism through a feature called SimCheck.
