Evaluation
A final grade of 75% or higher is mandatory for continuation in the Radiography program.
Clinical staff will grade the student’s performance in the clinical setting daily. Students will send an email, through Trajecsys, to the staff member at the end of their assigned shift. The email should contain the date in which you want the staff evaluation completed. Please use proper email etiquette, and put KCC after your name at the end of the email. It is up to the student to get staff evaluations turned in within 2 weeks of the date of attendance throughout the semester, the 2nd to the last week will only have one week to submit the staff eval and the final week of clinical, no staff evals are needed. It is the responsibility of the student to send the technologist an email, through Trajecsys, as a reminder of the needed staff eval and for the requested date. One staff evaluation will be needed per date of clinical.
The Staff Evaluations must be completed within 2 weeks of the rotation or a zero will automatically be recorded. All staff evals must be turned in prior to the final week of clinical. It will be the responsibility of the student to remind the staff radiographer of the needed evaluation. If the technologist is on leave or vacation, the student needs to communicate with the clinical preceptor to have them complete the evaluation in the technologist’s absence.

Below 75% on a Competency must be repeated with a minimum grade of 75; if not repeated, Competency will not be counted as a completed Competency. If repeated and the minimum grade is met, the student will receive a recorded grade equivalent to a 75.
All students are expected to proficiently perform all radiographic examinations that they previously demonstrated competency from current and previous semesters. If a student is not able to complete this requirement, they will not be in compliance with ARRT clinical requirements for registry eligibility. Each clinical semester is designed to help the students progress appropriately within the program. If the student is unable to demonstrate proficiency a remediation plan will be developed by KCC faculty. The student must meet all requirements in the remediation plan or they will fail the clinical course. Students may refer to the remediation plan in the radiography program student handbook. If the student does not prove proficient by the clinical preceptor or KCC faculty the student will fail the clinical course. Proficiency is detailed and outlines in the Radiography Program Student Handbook.

Attendance
For a missed clinical, the student must call or email the appropriate KCC professor and call the clinical site by 7:00 a.m. for a day-time clinical and by 1:30 p.m. for a p.m. clinical and have a legitimate excuse. If the KCC professor is not in at the time of the call, the student is to leave a message (reason, date, and time of the call) on the voice mail. When calling the clinical site, leave a message with Radiography department staff. It is the responsibility of the student to know whom they left the message with. Non-emergency physician and dental appointments should be scheduled on off-duty time. If a student is aware that he/she needs to be absent on a particular day, an advance request may be made in writing to the KCC professor.
Each student is allotted one (1) personal day per semester that will not affect their final clinical grade. In order for a personal day to be used the student must call or email the appropriate KCC professor and call the clinical site by 7:00 a.m. for a day-time clinical and by 1:30 p.m. for a p.m. clinical and have a legitimate excuse. The student will be required to make the missed day up in no less than two (2) hour increments and the student can NOT stay longer than 10 hours TOTAL for a shift. All time MUST be made up prior to the last scheduled day of clinical for that semester. If the time is not made up, the absence will count against their final grade according to the attendance policy.
All make up time must be scheduled with program faculty and approved by the clinical preceptor prior to completing the time.
If a student is absent during a clinical rotation at a visiting site, the time will have to be made up at the visiting site in order to gain the most from the visiting site experience. Even if the student chooses to not use the absent clinical day as a “personal day”, he/she will still have to switch a day at their primary clinical site to attend a day at the visiting clinical site.
For each additional absence (other than the one allowed personal day), the student will receive a reduction in their attendance grade for each clinical session missed. An absence will result in a zero for the student's staff evaluation for the unattended rotation. The students in the Radiography Program will not have the option of making up any additional unattended days in order to expunge the absence.
Excessive absences for XRAY 1346 are defined as more than FOUR missed clinical sessions (excluding the one personal day allowed when requirements are fulfilled). Once the student misses the FIFTH clinical day, a grade of “F” will be recorded for the semester and the student will be removed from the Radiography Program.
The instructor has the right to record the grade of F for the course or reduce a student’s grade if a student has excessive absences or does not meet the requirements of the course as defined in the instructor’s syllabus. (The Code of Campus Affairs and Regulations) Section 4.0 * Part 4.2 * Attendance and Campus Behavior.
**For every 2 missed punches, it will result in an absence. For every 2 out of range punches, it will result in an absence. For every 2 no location registered, it will result in an absence.
For extended illnesses, continuation in the Radiography program will be determined by the program Director and Clinical Coordinator according to program policy set forth under the ATTENDANCE SECTION in the Kankakee Community College Radiography Student Handbook.
For a complete description of the ATTENDANCE procedure please refer to the ATTENDANCE SECTION in the Kankakee Community College Radiography Student Handbook.

TARDINESS
Tardiness is considered to be a late arrival or an early departure of 10 minutes or more. Two (2) tardies constitute one absence. Habitual tardiness will not be tolerated by radiography program faculty, as it demonstrates a poor work ethic and makes an individual unemployable. Any student that violates the rules will be subject to enforcement of the grading policy set forth and may possibly be at risk for failure of clinical.
*Leaving the clinical site 1 hour or more early or arriving an hour or more late will be counted as an absence.
MISSED PUNCHES
If the student forgets to punch in or out at clinical, it is the responsibility of the student to get an email from someone at their clinical site to verify their punches that day. Missed punches will count against the attendance grade, if the times cannot be verified.
**For every 2 missed punches, it will result in an absence.

Students will perform student initiated, instructor approved, Radiographic examinations and will be evaluated using the criteria for performance evaluation. Students will have until _11/13/2026 to complete SIXTEEN (16) Clinical Competency Evaluations and SIX (6) Pre-Competency’s (“Practice Sheets”). To accomplish this, the student should perform a minimum of 4 graded examinations a week. Students not complying with this date and the required examinations, will cause a reduction of his/her clinical grade. Any Competency's or Pre-Competency’s not completed by the due date stated, will be recorded as a "0" and cannot be made-up. Students will be required to meet with the professor at midterm if they do not have at least 10 completed and approved exams. During this meeting, students will provide the professor with a plan on what they will do to obtain more examinations at clinical, in order to pass XRAY 1346.
Some of the following Competencies / Pre-Competencies are selected to evaluate skills in cases where the patient is considered difficult or advanced level. Many times, this requires compensation in positioning or technique such as: Trauma, Portables, Pediatric, Geriatric, Special Procedures, and Surgical Radiography. The majority of the exam should be completed by the student. Assistance can be given by the registered radiographer, but only limited assistance. If it becomes evident that the radiographer assisted excessively, the Competency or Pre-Competency will be rejected. If it is a Competency, it will have to be repeated with a maximum grade of 75%. Any RE-COMP must be completed with the clinical preceptor. If the RE-COMP is not passed or disapproved by a clinical preceptor, a remediation plan will be written up for the student.
