Stainless steel wire brush
3/32" tungsten electrodes (at least 2)
Welding helmet with a number 10 shade lens or an auto darkening helmet
Tig welding gloves
Large pliers or vice grips
Tape measure 16 FT.

Catalog Description: The student will be able to explain the principles of TIG Welding, TIG power supplies, and TIG joint preparation. The student also will weld various joint designs in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions using the TIG process.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Safely operate a gas tungsten arc welder
- Explain the principles of GTAW
- Select the proper filler metal, gases and parameters for a given GTAW weld
- Troubleshoot GTAW weld discontinuities and incidents

Withdrawals
When it is necessary to withdraw from a course or from the college, a student may do so on or before the withdrawal date without receiving a punitive final grade. Students should use Change of Schedule forms which are available in Student Services. Students may submit Change of Schedule forms to Student Services or through the mail, but they must be postmarked no later than the withdrawal date. No withdrawals are allowed by phone. To determine the last date to withdraw with a grade of “W” in this course, is Nov 05, 2026

Students need to adhere to the Code of Conduct located in the college catalog.
Non-Attendance/Non-Participation
KCC complies with state law and federal financial aid policy. If you receive an attendance grade of F or are institutionally withdrawn from a course, it will affect your eligibility for financial aid. (1) You must attend at least one class, or participate at least once for an online course (logging in without participation is not attending), by the 10th day of 16 week courses or within the first 10% of shorter term classes. Non-attendance will result in an attendance grade of F. If you have excessive absences and no reasonable chance of passing the course at midterm (or after), your instructor may give you a WX grade and have you institutionally withdrawn from the course.
Course Policies
Regular attendance at all scheduled class sessions is expected, Attendance is take at the beginning, and end of class. If a student has missed more class hours than the number of credit hours to be earned in the class, the instructor may record a grade of "F" for the course. Failure of the student to attend class does not constitute withdrawal. The student must make a formal written withdrawal through the Office of Admissions and Records. Four or more unexcused absences will constitute an automatic failure of the course. Each unexcused absence will lower the student’s final grade by one half letter grade. If the instructor finds that there is no chance for the student to successfully pass the course, the instructor may have the student institutionally withdrawn from the course. If the student fails to have completed the assigned homework, that student will not be allowed to participate in the lab activities, and will not receive any credit for that class session. No student will be allowed to work in the lab without proper attire, long pants, leather shoes, and safety glasses. Safety glasses must be worn at ALL times in the Welding Lab. Attendance for the entire class period is mandatory.
Code of Conduct
Students need to adhere to the Code of Conduct located in the college catalog. Anyone suspected, in the judgment of KCC faculty/administrators/security, to be under the influence of drugs, alcohol or other behavior-altering substances may be tested without notice according to board-approved procedures. Violation also includes failure to comply with college procedure for testing. The student will not be allowed back to class until college administrators has reviewed the incident.
