The nursing process will be used to teach skills to prepare medications, administer by various routes, and record accurately. Basic mathematical calculations necessary to correctly calculate dosages for a variety of clients will be included. Terminology, abbreviations, and legal implications of drug administration will be emphasized. Basic knowledge of the Licensed Practical Nurse's responsibilities in IV therapy will be taught.

The student’s grade will be determined by totaling all 4 unit exam scores, quizzes (unannounced), homework/in-class assignments, and final exam. A calculator may be used for all exams and/or quizzes, which will be provided by the instructor. Calculators from home are not permitted for exams.

Need 133.6 points for 80%
At the end of the semester, point totals are converted to percentages.

Return Demonstrations During the semester, the professor will demonstrate a number of basic nursing skills during class and via video. Each student will be required to show competency in these skills by performing all skills satisfactorily for a professor in the nursing lab by the assigned due date. These return demonstrations are graded as pass/fail. A description of the skills, as well as the time necessary to return the demonstration, can be found in the KCC Skills Book. It is the student’s responsibility to sign up for scheduled times to return the demonstrations in the nursing lab. Students will only be allowed to schedule time in the nursing lab for return demonstrations during his/her free time—not during class time. Students must either keep the scheduled demonstration time or notify instructor via email or phone to cancel the time prior to the scheduled time. You must bring nursing equipment pack to each return demonstration. All required return demonstrations must be successfully completed by dates listed below.

"Remember that completing demos is your responsibility. Failure to complete the assigned demos by the due date can result in failure of the course. If you need to remove your name on the day of your demo, please email that instructor with greater than 2 hours' notice. Any cancellation within the 2-hour time frame will be considered a late cancellation. Demo time is valuable time. All instructor demo time will be available in the Google Sheets. There will be no additional demo time added. Should a student fail to complete demos by the due date, they may not contact an instructor for additional time. If a student does not show up to their scheduled demo time or does not cancel the scheduled time at least 2 hours ahead of time, it will be considered a no-call, no-show, which will result in a verbal warning at the rst occurrence. The second occurrence will result in a write-up on professionalism, which will be placed in the student's le. At the third occurrence, the student will receive an "incomplete" for the nal course grade until all demos are completed."
The criteria listed above must be met in order to be successful in PNUR 1241. No incomplete grade will be given in this class or any Practical Nursing course. However, extenuating circumstances will be considered and exceptions may be made at the discretion of the professors.

Tests and quizzes
The student’s test average needs to be above 78% to pass the course. This grade will not be rounded up. The overall average must be 80% or higher after the final exam to pass the course. A grade between 79.5 and 79.9 will not be rounded up to achieve a passing grade.
(*Refer to Nursing Policy for Tests and/or Quizzes in Nursing Handbook) Students are expected to take all tests at the date and time scheduled (see class schedule for dates and class times). The student must notify the instructor of an absence prior to test time. No more than two make-up tests will be allowed for the semester, however, extenuating circumstances will be considered with submission of proper documentation and will be reviewed by the aculty member and the Director of Nursing.
Test Policy and Environment All tests and quizzes will be taken on the scheduled day and time. Tests or quizzes may not be taken early. If a student is going to miss a test, they will have one week to make it up in the testing center. It must be completed before the start of class the following week. The student must notify the faculty member when they will be taking the test in the testing center. If a student is tardy to class on a test day, they may be allowed to start the test, but they will not be given extra time to complete it. Students need to be aware that all tests may be an alternate test if they are not taken on the scheduled day and time. No more than two tests can be made up (taken) in the testing center in the course within a semester. The time allowed for taking a test is determined by the faculty proctoring the test. As a goal for NCLEX readiness, the student should strive for approximately 1.5 minutes or less per question.
The testing environment is created to ensure fairness for all students. Faculty may randomly assign seats during a test and will try to put one seat in between each student. All desks/tables must be cleared prior to handing out the test. All backpacks, purses, phones, computers, drink bottles, hats, watches, and hoodies must be placed in the front or back of the classroom. No head coverings including hoodies will be allowed. Phones should be turned off to minimize distraction. Pencils and erasers can be left on the desk to use for the test/quiz. If the student chooses to use ear plugs, these must be given out by the faculty prior to the exam. If a test requires a calculator, one will be provided by the faculty. Students should not leave the room once the exam has begun. After completing the exam, students will leave the classroom and not return until instructed by the faculty.
Test Review Test review will only occur after all students have taken the test. All students are required to be present for the test review. The review will occur in a proctored environment. During test review, the desktop will be cleared. Pens, pencils and phones will not be allowed. Students are not allowed to take notes during the test review. In addition, students are reminded that they are not to discuss tests and quizzes outside of the classroom. Faculty are available during their student support hours to meet with students individually to discuss test taking strategies. Faculty can also discuss patterns that may be evident on tests that can help a student in future tests. If a student feels that a question was graded incorrectly, the student must notify the instructor who gave the test within 3 weeks from the day the test was given. After that time, the grade will be final.
Quizzes may not be made up. No quizzes can be made up with the exception of (jury duty, death in family, military duty, personal hospitalization). Documentation may be required. Students who are absent or late to class when a quiz is given will receive a zero for the quiz or if the quiz is at the end of class and the student leaves early they will not have the opportunity for make-up. Exams/quizzes scores are based only on what the student marks on the computerized exams/quiz. If the student leaves a number blank, it will be counted wrong.
Students are reminded that there is to be no discussion of test content/questions outside of class. Completion of such notes or discussions will be viewed as cheating and will result in disciplinary action. Unit exams will not be open to the student for study prior to the final exam. There will be no review of the final exam. Please refer to the testing policy/guidelines for detailed information in the nursing student handbook. Students wishing to verify a test grade must do so within 3 weeks of the test date. After that time, the exam will no longer be available for review and the grade recorded by the instructor will be the official grade.
