This course is an introduction to engineering design and graphics, including design problems, sketching, dimensioning, tolerancing, multi-view orthographic representations, auxiliary views, section views, and working drawings. Students are required to use computer-aided drafting in this course. Sketching and CAD techniques will be integrated in this course.
One year of high school geometry with a grade of C or better or MATH 1453

This course is covering four major themes, Introduction to Engineering, Engineering CAD, Engineering Problem Solving, and Presentation of an Engineering Design.
This course has multiple activities which include developing AutoCAD skills, developing Inventor skills, working on teams to design and test a final project, understanding the college process in working toward an engineering degree, understanding some basic engineering principles, and developing methods of calculations. Most of the time you spend in lab will be used to develop your AutoCAD skills, your Inventor skills, and working on your final project. Do not expect to be able to complete all of your computer-based assignments during your lab time. Students need to come to class prepared for the assigned activities, still students need to plan to work in the lab outside of the planned classroom times.

Lab Death Penalty: (Week 11, Week 16)
- All late labs will be assessed a 15% penalty per week.
- Any student failing to submit a lab by the death penalty will receive a zero for that lab.
- Labs will not be accepted after the lab death penalty date.
Quiz Policy
- Quizzes cannot be made up.

Final Design Policy
There will be a team design project. Each team will build a physical model of their design to be performance tested and evaluated. Autodesk Inventor (Parametric Modeling Software) will be used for the working drawing portion of the project. The assessment will be based on:

Final Exam Policy
- The final exam is mandatory.
- Any student arriving late for the final exam will receive a zero.
- Any student that must leave early for any reason (including finishing early) must turn in their final exam prior to exiting the room. Failure to do so will result in a zero.

Incomplete Grade Policy
- All course requirements must be completed by the end date of the course.
- An incomplete grade will NOT be granted regardless of the extenuating circumstances.
Time Commitment Expectation
At a minimum, the average person can expect to spend three to six additional hours per week outside of class. This time will be dedicated to reading the textbook chapter(s), answering study questions, studying for quizzes and tests, and practicing AutoCAD techniques.
Class Attendance
- Regular attendance at all scheduled class sessions is expected.
- There are NO excused absences.
- To receive full class attendance points, you must not be late or leave early.
- Reading assignments are indicated on the schedule and should be finished before the topic is covered in class.
- Some important information provided during the lecture does not appear in your textbook, but you will find it useful for completing your labs, quizzes or tests. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain handouts and information presented for any class for which he/she is absent.
- If a student misses four or more classes in one semester or greater than 20 hours of class time, the student will receive an automatic “F”.
Classroom Code of Conduct
- Use of cell phones during class is not permitted.
- Use of tablets or laptops during class is not permitted.
- No texting, twitter, Facebook, Internet surfing not related to class.

Computer Graphic Technology Lab Safety
- Students will be allowed to work in V205 outside of their scheduled class time and when no other class is in the lab. Typically posted on the door or bulletin board is a schedule of class times.
- Students will not be allowed to work in V115 Innovation Lab outside of enrolled class times without prior approval or consent of instructor or program coordinator and direct supervision of tutor, instructor or program coordinator.
Student Behavior
· Students must be aware that a professor is required by law or College policy to report curtain violations of the schools Code of Conduct and abuse that a student is involved.
· Students sometimes choose to share private information with their professors. We appreciate your trust. According to Section 9 of the Civil Rights act of 1964 and as amended (Title IX), faculty are required to report any violation to this act. Title IX pertains any sexual harassment. Students need to be aware of this situation. Please don’t feel like you can’t reach out but be aware of our requirement to report. The student may also lose the right to have any other grades dropped in calculating the student’s class average.
