This is a survey course intended for health career students. The structure and function of human tissue, organs, and systems will be studied. Strong emphasis is placed on developing basic skills in medical terminology. AAS: Life science (Laboratory science) elective.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. Be able to describe or demonstrate an understanding of the basic chemical processes occurring in the
human body.
2. Utilize a basic working knowledge of medical terminology.
3. Be able to name and identify the basic organs and related structures of the eleven human organ systems
on models, cats, cadavers, pictures, or drawings.
4. Be able to effectively use directional, sectional, and planar terms to locate or identify structures or
organs in the human body.
5. Be able to list and explain the major functions of each organ or organ system in the human body.
6. Be able to explain and demonstrate knowledge of the interrelationships of structures, organs, and organ
systems to homeostasis.

Due to the small amount of time that we have live in class it is imperative that you attended all labs so that
you will not miss any quizzes or exams in the event that you do miss a quiz or exam it is at the instructors
discretion based on the reason for the absence if the exam can be made up in the testing center.
. If you are aware of a scheduling conict, you may arrange to take an exam early during my oce hours.
· Attendance: Attending class and being an active participant are crucial to your success in this course.
· Please turn off all electronic devices (cell phones, headphones, etc.) prior to the start of class/ lab to
prevent class disruption.
· Pencil (#2) must be used on all exams. None will be provided.
· Safety goggles must be worn while handling specimens or chemicals.
· Audio recordings: Students may make audio recordings of lecture and/ or lab for their own personal use
while enrolled in this class. However, the student may not share and/ or distribute these recordings without
the expressed written consent of the instructor.
· Students may review old exams during any oce hours until the last lecture of the semester. Students may
not copy or write anything down while reviewing the exam
