This course will be concerned with the integration of the histology, gross anatomy and function of the cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive and metabolic, urinary, and reproductive systems of the human organism. Use will be made of the case-study method to achieve the desired understanding and integration of physiologic principles. The laboratory portion of the course will include use of human cadavers to study the anatomy of the systems indicated above. AAS: Life science (laboratory science) elective.

Participation: This is a hybrid course. Therefore, we will meet only once per week. Attending class and being an active participant are crucial to your success in this course. It is YOUR responsibility, not mine, to find out what work you may have missed.
Communication: You will be expected to log into Canvas at least three times per week to stay current with class announcements. If you need to contact me, please do so via email. My email address is jcohen@kcc.edu, you can plan on a response from me within 24 hours during the week and 48 hours on the weekend.
Make-up policy: During the semester, Canvas will drop your lowest connect assignment and lab report. Late connect assignments and lab reports WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Your completed lab will be due before 11:59pm the day of your lab. In the case of an emergency Canvas downtime, I will adjust due dates if Canvas is down for more than 8 hours due to an emergency, but likely, the date will only be pushed back 24 hours. You MAY NOT turn in a lab assignment for a lab you did not attend. If you know in advance that you are going to miss a lab, contact me and I might be able to find a different lab section that you can attend that week. The lab final CANNOT be made up, make sure you are present!!! You must show up to your exams at the scheduled time. If you arrive late for a lecture exam or lab quiz, you will have only the time remaining for all of the students that were in class on time. Make-up lecture exams will consist of essay questions and must be taken within one week of the assigned test date. If you miss a lab quiz, your score will align with the percentage earned on the lab final. All finals must be taken at the assigned time. If you are aware of a scheduling conflict, you may arrange to take an exam early during my office hours.
Laboratory Safety: Attendance at the first laboratory meeting is required. A student may not participate in lab if they have missed the first lab meeting, which includes the mandatory lab safety training. If a student misses the first lab meeting, they must notify the instructor to make arrangements to make up the safety training before the second lab meeting. Students are expected to comply with the KCC Laboratory Safety Rules at all times. These rules will be discussed during the first lab meeting and each student will sign an acknowledgement of receipt and understanding. Students who do not comply with the safety rules will be asked to leave the lab and will receive no credit for that day’s work.
