The student will apply his/her knowledge of agri-hort technology by working a minimum of 160 hours at a cooperating business under the supervision of a training site supervisor and the program coordinator.
14 credit hours of Agri-Hort Technology core courses with a grade of C or better
AGHT 2012 Internship Experience was designed to meet specific student needs either individually or within a program. Transferability of this course will be determined by each transfer institution. Please see an academic advisor for an explanation concerning transfer option.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the major classes of companion animals
- Describe the living habits and behavior of companion animals
- Explain mammalian physiology, especially of dogs and cats
- Describe nutrition, diseases, and treatments pertaining to companion animals
- Identify careers in the companion animal industry

The most integral part of this course is the successful completion of 160 hours of site time with an internship provider. Students who do not complete 160 hours of site time will receive an “F” for the internship, regardless of their performance on other reports. The instructor reserves the right to reconsider this on a case-to-case basis.

Goals and Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you will:
- Perform appropriate assignments and responsibilities as evaluated by the training site supervisor and the program coordinator,
- Exhibit a cooperative and positive attitude while at the workplace as evaluated by the training site supervisor and the program coordinator,
- Submit, on a timely basis, all activity reports and related paperwork with the required signatures,
- Discuss and analyze on-the-job experiences with the program coordinator,
- Demonstrate appropriate human relations work traits as evaluated by the training site supervisor and the program coordinator,
- Evaluate and analyze the experience gained during the internship experience.
Internship Site Selection and Details
The instructor may provide a list of internship host site possibilities; however, the student is responsible for establishing an internship site. KCC may serve as an internship host site; however, the student must seek external host site(s) prior to requesting KCC – see instructor for additional details. The internship agreement must be signed by all three parties (student, site supervisor, and KCC coordinator) and submitted to KCC coordinator prior to the student completing hours. The time sheet must be completed weekly (typed) and submitted the Wednesday after the week completed. A midterm (80 hours) and final (160 hours) evaluation must be completed by the site supervisor. The KCC coordinator will complete a site visit and evaluation. The student will complete an internship experience report.
General Education Outcomes
The general education program at KCC is designed to enable students to acquire communication and reasoning skills at a level reflecting college-level learning. Students who complete the general education program will be able to examine complex topics and apply systematic processes to form conclusions. The specific general education objectives addressed in this course are:
Communication: Students will communicate with precision, clarity, fluency, accuracy, and coherence through their reading, writing, and verbal communications.
Quantitative Reasoning: Students will reason and solve quantitative problems from a wide array of contexts.
Inquiry and Analysis: Students will examine complex topics and apply systematic processes resulting in formed conclusions.

Withdrawals
When it is necessary to withdraw from a course or from the college, a student may do so on or before the withdrawal date stated on the syllabus without receiving a punitive final grade. Change of Schedule forms (used to add or drop a course) are available in Student Services and the student should obtain the required signatures prior to submitting the Change of Schedule form to an adviser in Student Services. Students may submit Change of Schedule forms through the mail, but they must be postmarked no later than the withdrawal date. No withdrawals are allowed by phone. To determine the last date to withdraw with a grade of “W” in this course, log onto KCConnect and click on “my registration statement” under Academic Profile.
