Course Description
This course surveys the basics of hydraulics applied in both industrial and some mobile hydraulic systems. The operation and use of components associated with hydraulic systems will be discussed. The student will demonstrate his/her ability in practical application of valves, actuators, cylinders, pumps, filters and other components common to hydraulic systems.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Perform the basic math functions that hydraulic systems are based on.
  2. Design and install basic electrical hydraulic systems.
  3. Describe, install, and troubleshoot hydraulics hydraulic systems.
  4. Identify hydraulic components commonly used in hydraulic systems.
  5. Develop and demonstrate safe work habits and techniques in the use of hydraulic systems.
  6. Read and create hydraulic schematic drawings.

Course Policies

Attendance

Regular attendance at all scheduled class sessions is expected.

If a student misses more hours of class than the number of semester credit hours to be earned in the course, the student may receive a failing grade for the course.

Students are required to bring a red pen and calculator to class every day. Failure to bring a red pen will result in a 1-point deduction from your quiz grade. A calculator will be used regularly for classwork, quizzes, and labs, so students are expected to have one available at all times.

PPE Requirements

  • Safety glasses must be worn at all times during labs.
  • Tennis shoes or better are required. No flip-flops, sandals, or soft-toed footwear are allowed.
  • Failure to follow PPE requirements will result in the student being asked to leave the lab.
