Course Policies
Academic Integrity
KCC considers academic integrity violations a serious offense. Violations include, but are not limited to plagiarism, cheating, unauthorized use of artificial intelligence (AI), fabrication/falsification, and personal misrepresentation. Appropriate use of AI, if permitted, will be communicated by the instructor for specific assignments. The academic integrity policy refers to all coursework in this class for the duration of
the semester. The internet is an incredibly powerful learning tool that provides access to information on any topic. The same powerful internet has also made it easier to detect plagiarism, and plagiarism in any form is
treated as follows:
• First incident of plagiarism, the student will be issued a warning.
• Second incident of plagiarism will result in a zero for the assignment.
• Third incident of plagiarism will be reported to school officials.
Refer to KCC’s Code of Campus Affairs and Regulations, Section 17.2, for specific violations
of academic integrity.
Mechanics
College-level writing is expected on all assignments. This includes proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure (complete sentences). When applicable, writing must include appropriate in-text citations and references. Use of text language is prohibited. All written assignments are graded accordingly. Professional business communication standards are expected in all written assignments and
course communications.
Attendance and Participation
Because this course is offered in an asynchronous, independent-study format, attendance is measured by active participation in course activities. Students are expected to regularly access Canvas, review course materials, complete assignments, participate in required activities, and submit coursework by the established deadlines.
Students who do not participate in course activities, fail to submit coursework for an extended period ,or otherwise cease engagement in the course may be reported as non-attending in accordance with college policies and financial aid regulations.
Students are responsible for monitoring course announcements, meeting all deadlines, and communicating with the instructor when circumstances affect their ability to participate or complete coursework.
Attendance at the scheduled in-person final examination is required. Students unable to attend due to documented extenuating circumstances should contact the instructor immediately.
Refer to KCC’s Code of Campus Affairs and Regulations, Section 3.0, for specific attendance policies.
This course is offered in an asynchronous independent-study format. Students complete coursework through Canvas by the published deadlines. Coursework is designed to support the course learning outcomes through readings, chapter assignments, applied HR activities, the course project, and the final examination. Assignment instructions, due dates, and grading criteria are provided in Canvas.
Assignment Submission and Late Work
All coursework is assigned a due date to support student progress and successful completion of course outcomes. Assignments must be submitted electronically through the appropriate Canvas assignment
area by the specified deadline. Assignments submitted by email will not be accepted unless specifically requested by the instructor. Because this course is offered in an asynchronous independent-study format, students are expected to manage their time and complete coursework according to the established schedule. Late assignments are not accepted unless prior arrangements have been made
with the instructor due to documented extenuating circumstances. Failure to submit an assignment by the due date may result in a grade of zero.
Students experiencing academic difficulty are encouraged to communicate with the instructor prior to the withdrawal deadline to discuss available options for academic success. Students are expected to complete assigned readings and coursework by established deadlines. Technology issues are not accepted as an excuse for incomplete or late assignments. Students are responsible for ensuring access
to the technology required to participate in the course and should maintain a contingency plan for technical difficulties. Computers and printers for student use are available on KCC's campus.
Grades
All grades count. Lowest grades are not dropped for any assignments. Diligence in completing the required coursework is expected. It is the student’s responsibility to routinely review their gradebook in Canvas for errors or missing assignments/grades and to communicate discrepancies to the instructor.
